At Eye Clinic, led by Dr. Nattawut Wanumkarng, had the honor of being invited by Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital to give lectures and conduct training on eyelid surgery for various eyelid disorders from February 17 to 19, 2016. This training was organized to enhance the skills of medical personnel and improve the quality of care for patients in remote areas.
Training and Surgery Activities
Day 1 (February 17, 2016): The team traveled from Don Mueang Airport to Chiang Rai Airport. In the afternoon, they conducted a lecture covering essential topics related to eyelid surgery, such as:
- Surgical correction of entropion (inward-turned eyelid)
- Surgical correction of ectropion (outward-turned eyelid)
- Correction of ptosis (drooping eyelid affecting vision)
- Treatment of eyelid abnormalities caused by trauma
Day 2 (February 18, 2016): The team conducted hands-on surgical training in the operating room, where participants had the opportunity to practice under close supervision from ophthalmologists.
Day 3 (February 19, 2016): Training on small-incision cataract surgery was conducted, with Dr. Nares, an experienced ophthalmologist from Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital, serving as the main instructor. Additionally, the team visited Wat Huay Pla Kang, where they met a revered monk who dedicates himself to caring for over 500 orphans. The temple fully supports these children’s education and living expenses. The serene and picturesque surroundings of the temple, resembling a foreign tourist destination, left a lasting impression on all visitors.
Special Thanks
We would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Songkrod and Dr. Nares, as well as the ophthalmology team at Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital, for inviting At Eye Clinic to participate in this valuable training. This journey not only provided an opportunity to share surgical knowledge but also allowed us to gain new perspectives, witness the needs of underserved communities, and find inspiration to continue doing the work we love.
